Saturday, April 26, 2008. Santa Fe to Daughter Shandra's in Lakewood, near Denver.

It's fairly straightforward today. We just get on I-25 north, outside Santa Fe, and drive till we get to Denver.

We stop at an old service station to clean the windshield. Surprisingly, there is no liquid to use, so we use our drinking water. Works just fine and we're off again.

Highlights of the day are a baby Western Kingbird and an emu. An emu?

COLORADO

We stop for lunch at a scenic overlook, fourteen miles from Trinidad, after we cross into Colorado. After a relaxing lunch, we put Boomer in the trailer, drive to the nearest service station, fill up and head out again.

After a while, we can see snow on the mountains to our left. It's the Colorado Rocky Mountains and they're beautiful.

We get to Denver and greet the Weeses. We love the Weeses to pieces. After setting up the trailer in the driveway, we relax and enjoy visiting with everybody.

Sunday, April 27, 2008. Church, Carriage Rides and a Masquerade Ball.

All the Weeses plus Sharon and I go to their church service, then it's back home for lunch and preparing for the evening.

Sharon and I go shopping at the King Sooper, and to my surprise, I find the minicard still on my key chain, so we get a nice discount on our groceries.

At the appointed time, we all go back to the church, where everyone is dressed up in their medieval finest.

Two carriages take the townsfolk for rides around the serfdom, then it's inside for the masquerade ball, after dinner of course.

IN THE WHITE CARRIAGE

During the morning services, a musical group leads the singing, and one key member of that group heads up the band tonight. They can play all manner of songs, including the critically important Macarena and of course the Chicken Dance.

Monday, April 28, 2008. School and a Movie.

For the first and last year ever, I suppose, since next year Mikayla will move to a junior high school, all four kids attend the same school, and I drive them to school this morning.

After school, Sharon takes Samantha on a shopping trip for her birthday.

FRISBEE MASTER SYDNEY

At 5 pm, Jeff takes Tommy to his dance class.

Tonight Jeff and Shandra have a bowling night planned, but we beg off. The last time I bowled, I realize that my bowling days are over. The bowling action puts a very undesirable torsion on my spine, to which my spine has some kind of not-very-subtle objection.

We go to see a movie instead, and everybody indulges my desire not to know what the movie will be. It turns out to be Horton Hears a Who. We decide that it's a fair movie, but that's about as far as we'll go.

That night Samantha shows us how to make a paper drinking cup out of a standard typewriter paper. I show them how to find the exact midpoint of any line or edge on a piece of paper. Not as impressive as the paper cup.
